SW:The Old Republic Beta Testing Signups
September 29, 2009 by admin · 2 Comments
Those expectantly waiting for the release of the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic may be a little excited for the following annoucement from LucasArts and BioWare:
“BioWare and LucasArts today announced that they have started accepting applicants to assist them in testing Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. Limited testing slots are reserved for The Old Republic Community members, so those interested need only sign up at http://www.swtor.com/user/account if they haven’t already. Once signed in, members can log in and click the My Account page to opt in for testing. Testing will be an ongoing process, and spots are limited, so people need to sign up early to give them the best possible chance of getting selected.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively-multiplayer online game being developed by the storytelling experts at BioWare and LucasArts. In Star Wars: The Old Republic, players will explore an age thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader when war between The Old Republic and The Sith Empire divides the galaxy. Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or a variety of other classic Star Wars roles, defining their personal story and determining their path down the Light or Dark side of the Force. Along the way, players will befriend courageous companions who will fight at their side or possibly betray them, based on the players’ actions. Players can also choose to team up with friends to battle enemies and overcome incredible challenges in dynamic Star Wars combat.”
Well, aparently people are excited for the announcement. If you currently try to visit SWTOR.com, you’re met with the following message:
“Thank you for visiting www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com. We are making adjustments to the site due to the overwhelming response to the testing announcement. Please be patient and check back later. We estimate that the site will be back up in the next few hours.”
If you want to be a tester, keep checking back to the TOR site and repeatedly click refresh…which probrably caused the adjustment needs in the first place.
10 Sweet Bossk Collectibles
September 28, 2009 by admin · 2 Comments
The one and only Mary Franklin gives you a tour of her top 10 Bossk collectibles at Starwars.com. Check out her intro below and click here for the full Trandoshian run down.
“When Pete Vilmur asked me to write about my top ten Bossk collectibles I was thrilled. Not just because I would finally get to share my fascination with the Trandoshan in a public forum, but also because writing the article meant I would get to spend a little time thinking about each piece, evaluating what it meant to me, and — just maybe — playing with them for a bit.
A few things that did not make the list:
There are two wonderful caricatures of my face on Bossk’s body, done by artists Randy Martinez, and Tom Hodges. These have a special place in my heart and I treasure them, but how egocentric to put pictures of myself in this article.
The Clone Wars Supervising Director, Dave Filoni, drew a Bossk sketch for me, and left it on my desk. This would be very cool, except Filoni added a bubble that had Bossk saying “Plo Koon is so cool.” We all know this is nonsense, so that drawing will not make the cut either.”
Jedi Church Leader Kicked Out Of Store
September 21, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
According to this article at Ananova.com, Daniel Jones, the founding member of the International Church of Jediism, was asked to leave a grocery store for…. wait for it…. wait for it…. refusing to remove his hood from his robe.
Below are some of the quotes from the article:
“Daniel, who works in Bangor, said he’d gone to the store to buy something to eat during his lunch-break but was told by staff to leave unless he took his hood off.
“They said: “Take it off and I said: “No, its part of my religion. It’s part of my religious right.” I gave them a Jedi church business card,” he said.
Daniel has now made an official complaint and is seeking legal advice.
“It was discrimination. They were making a joke against me. I was really upset. Nobody should be treated like that,” he moaned.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “Jedis are very welcome to shop in our stores although we would ask them to remove their hoods.”
Well, there you have it folks. We live in a day & age where nothing is too crazy or incomprehensible.
Yikes…

The Kentucky Star Wars Collectors Club (KSWCC)’s annual Fall Festival is slated for Saturday, Sept. 19. This year’s event is at Melbourne Heights Baptist Church, 3728 Taylorsville Rd., in Louisville.
The fun and festivities begin at 1 p.m. Eastern time. Food will be served beginning at 3 p.m. We’ll have goodies and prizes for our paid membership and, of course, there will be a Star Wars swap meet, so bring anything you’d like to sell or trade. There will be games and activities for the kids, too.
Once again this year, we’re privileged to have some special guests in attendance. First-time attendee and SW artist John Lara will have some of his great work on display and for sale. Returning for a second year is former Kenner/Hasbro photographer Kim Simmons (The Man who shot Luke Skywalker), who will have a presentation on some of his work with the POTF2 line. If you have an interest in vintage Star Wars toys, this is a must-see presentation! Kim’s son, Scott Simmons, an independent comic artist, also will return this year and have his art on display and for sale.

Celebration V Tidbits
September 11, 2009 by admin · 2 Comments

Nope - it ain’t what you think it is. Star Wars Celebration V has not yet been officially announced (*sigh*).
But Steve Sansweet did speak briefly with Bryan Young from Examiner.com at this weekend’s Dragon-Con about this very subject and why we have not yet had any concrete details released on the convention.
Here are the main highlights from the conversation:
1. Celebration V will take place next summer (2010) to commemorate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back.
2. No Place or time has been set, though there are two things Sansweet said this weekend to remember:
A) They’ve inked deals like this as late as 6 months out, and:
B) It will be on the “right half of the country” (which, according to Sansweet, means that it will be somewhere between Chicago and the Atlantic.)
Nothing we haven’t heard/speculated on many times before (save for the 6 month out bit).
Oh well, the wait continues my friends…
Star Wars in my Call of Duty 4, Galactic Warfare
September 9, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

This mod made for PC was created by the Germans — the BlackMonkeys — and they’re calling it “Galactic Warfare”. Perfectly named, I say. It features real Star Wars skins over COD4 players. What’s better are the guns. Recreated from the Star Wars Galaxy, you can shoot Rebels using the storm troopers patented laser rifle, DLT-20a.
Also, the battles take place in Tatooine so be sure to look out for the sandstorms. Many people are saying that playing Battlefront II is the same thing, but obviously it’s not. Call of Duty 4 is known for it’s great handle on FPS’ and a Star Wars skin overlaying makes it better than anything BF related. And no lightsabers, thank god… everyone wants to be a Jedi but there’s only so many robes in the world.

•Possible “news from Daniel [Logan’s] camp in the not-too-distant future.”
